The trip, although shortened slightly compared to the original plans, was a total of nearly 5000 miles (8000 kilometers) and covered 13 (17) US states (California, Nevada, Arizona, Utah, New Mexico, Colorado, Kansas, Oklahoma, Texas, Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama, Virginia, (New Jersey, New York, Connecticut, Massachussetts)). (the additional 4 states were covered by yours truly in buses).
